FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT KINDS OF THINGS DO SCHOOL LEADERS WANT HELP WITH?
Every individual is unique and brings with them a personal set of challenges or struggles.  Many of the struggles are behavioural and are linked to a lack of confidence but many are skill related, such as not knowing how to plan their time.  Some people struggle to manage their emotions or can't seem to connect with their team.  Some fear failure. Some avoid having difficult conversations and are starting to lose respect from their team. Some struggle to present with gravitas.  Some are lonely or overwork.  Perfectionism is also common.  Some work so hard that they are damaging their home lives too.

Our work would cover all areas of life not just work, as a true balance can't be achieved without happiness in all areas. These are just a few examples.  Your personal set of struggles would be discussed in a discovery call before you signed up to any programme to ensure that we can help you.  The ultimate goal will be to help you become a healthy, courageous and authentic leader.

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE PACKAGES?
We have four coaches, who each have their specialist areas of knowledge and offer different standard packages. Please check out the Meet the Team page to find out what each coach can offer.  However, there are some universal parts to our packages.  These are detailed below:

  • Pre -work including a goal setting sheet and life assessment.  Other assessments may be used depending on the client's situation
  • Either 6 or 12 personal development sessions on Zoom or Teams (these could be 60 or 90 minutes long)
  • Post-session summaries from your coach in an agreed format that suits you; either video or audio.
  • Unlimited text and email support between sessions

DO I HAVE TO BOOK A PACKAGE?
Our goal is to help you transform and reach your goals, and we have created our packages to be the most cost effective and successful way to achieve that.  Once you have completed a package, you can then book by the session if you would like to do that.

WHY DO SOME COACHES OFFER 1.5 HOURS PER SESSION AND SOME ARE 1 HOUR?
Different coaches have different styles and they choose which time blocks they prefer. However, on occasions, a client might have a particular "aha" moment after only a few minutes, which needs working on, or reflecting on before we continue.  In these circumstances, we finish the session early and bank the remaining time, which is added onto the end of the programme.

WHERE DO WE HAVE COACHING?
You can have coaching anywhere that suits you, as it is usually on zoom or teams.  No need for travel, making it easier to fit into your day.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COACHING AND MENTORING AND WHY DO YOU OFFER BOTH?
Coaching is a technique used to encourage the client to find their own answers to their issues.  It usually involves being asked lots of different types of questions that a client may not usually ask themselves.  With the right questions, clients can often solve their own problems.

Mentoring involves giving advice to the client and offering them more explicit ways to solve their issues.
We will use a mix of both of these depending on the circumstances.  If we sense that a person has a blind spot and really doesn't know how to solve their own issue, then we will offer advice, which the client can either take or reject. The benefit is that this can speed up the process of development for the client.

IF MY SCHOOL PAYS FOR MY SESSIONS FOR ME, DOES THIS MEAN IT'S NOT CONFIDENTIAL.
Absolutely not. The content of your sessions is always confidential unless we sense you are a risk to either yourself or others, in which case, we can break confidentiality.  If your school pays, they will sign a contract to ensure that they give you the time and space to do your sessions and work in between. They may also choose to have some input into the goals you set with your coach for your development. Occasionally, your manager/sponsor may ask for an update on how well you are progressing against these goals.  Our update will always be very general and never include things we have talked about or specifics.

HOW MUCH OF A TIME COMMITMENT WILL THERE BE?
There is no set time, as every client's journey will be different. As a general rule, there will be:
  • approximately 1 hour's pre-work before we start working together
  •  1 x 60 or 90 minute session every 2 weeks (on average) and
  • a reflection note to complete after every session, which can take as long as you want it to.
  • Many clients take advantage of the unlimited contact time in between sessions and either text or email their coach with their progress or struggles.
  • We sometimes suggest good books to read but this is optional.
  • You will also be putting your new learning into practice in the workplace. The people, who put the most into the programme, get the most out of it.

WHAT DO I DO IF I STRUGGLE AND DON'T LIKE IT?
It is normal to experience struggle at some point during the process, as you will be going out of your comfort zone and trying new things.  A useful approach is to accept that this is how it works and embrace the challenge.  It's a bit like medicine; you might not always enjoy it, but you know it's good for you ;-).  It's important to share how you're feeling with your coach, as understanding the struggle may reveal a helpful blocker to your progress.

WHAT IS A DISCOVERY CALL AND HOW DO I BOOK ONE?
A discovery call is a 1 hour free phone call with your potential coach to discuss:
  • your current issues
  • your desired future vision
  • the blockers stopping your from getting there
  • your level of desire to change your issues
  • our compatibility as coach and client.
  • Answer any questions
If you are a good match and we think we can help you, we can start the process of registering you as a client, which will be slightly different depending on whether you pay for yourself or your school is paying.

You can book a discovery call with your preferred coach using the links on the Meet the Team page

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Costs range depending on the coach and the type of educational leader that you are.  For instance, CEO and Headteacher coaching is more expensive and is a longer package of support whereas Middle Leader programmes are shorter and cheaper.   Check out the Meet the Team page for details of each package.

IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE QUESTIONS, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO EMAIL [email protected] OR BOOK A DISCOVERY CALL using the links on the Meet the team page.
